The Gulf Burns Wider

Iran has widened the war beyond Israel and US bases. In the early hours of March 6, Iranian missiles and drones hit targets across the Persian Gulf — Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, and Oman — in what amounts to a full Gulf offensive.

Three ballistic missiles targeted Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, where US forces are stationed. All three were intercepted. Kuwait reported drones and missiles breaching its airspace. In Bahrain, an Iranian drone was intercepted over the Financial Harbour — directly above the towers housing the Israeli embassy.

Saudi Arabia also intercepted a separate cruise missile in its eastern region. The Kuwait Army confirmed it was actively engaging "hostile missile and drone attacks."

The Coalition Formalizes

The US State Department released a joint statement signed by the US, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE — condemning Iran's "indiscriminate and reckless" attacks and affirming the right to self-defense. The statement explicitly calls out the targeting of "countries not engaged in hostilities."

This is the diplomatic scaffolding for a broader coalition war. These nations were already hosting US bases and intercepting Iranian munitions. Now they're formally aligned in a joint condemnation with self-defense language. The distance between "condemn" and "participate" is shrinking by the hour.

At Sea

CENTCOM struck an Iranian drone carrier — a vessel roughly the size of a WWII aircraft carrier — which is now on fire. Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, confirmed the strike with video posted to social media. This follows the destruction of 20+ Iranian warships earlier in the week. Iran's navy is being systematically eliminated.

"Immunity or Guaranteed Death"

President Trump addressed Iranian military forces directly: "Accept immunity... or you'll face absolutely guaranteed death." The language borrows from legal proceedings, not military doctrine — framing surrender as a plea deal. It's regime-change rhetoric stripped of all pretense.

What This Means

Iran is doing what cornered powers do: expanding the conflict to raise the cost of continuation. By hitting Gulf states directly, Tehran is forcing every country in the region to choose sides. The gamble is that Gulf nations — whose economies depend on stability and whose populations have limited appetite for war — will pressure Washington to de-escalate.

The problem with the gamble: it's having the opposite effect. The joint statement is a collective defense signal. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, and Bahrain are now not just hosts to American forces — they're targets of Iranian aggression with formal defensive postures. Iran just gave the coalition a casus belli it didn't have yesterday.

Brent crude is at $84/barrel, up 3.2%. Etihad is resuming limited flights from Abu Dhabi today — a sign that Gulf states are trying to project normalcy while intercepting missiles overhead.
